The risk of infection at our hospital is extremely low, due to our stringent cleaning protocol that enables us to deliver quality healthcare. Single en suite facilities are available to most patients and nurses and doctors adhere to strict hygiene procedures.
MRSA
All patients admitted are screened for MRSA. If a patient is found to be a carrier careful precautions are put in place to prevent spread of infection. Many people have concerns about MRSA infections caught in UK hospitals. Generally MRSA does not cause problems but very occasionally if MRSA gets into a surgical wound or a break in the skin of someone who is in ill-health, it can cause infection. Utmost care is taken to avoid such situations and we are proud to report that our rates of such infection are zero.
Clostridium difficile (C.diff)
C.diff is a bacteria that causes diarrhoea and other intestinal disease when competing bacteria are wiped out by antibiotics. It is the most serious cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and can lead to a severe infection of the colon. The C. difficile bacteria, which naturally reside in the body, become overpopulated: The overpopulation is harmful because the bacterium releases toxins that can cause bloating, constipation, and diarrhoea with abdominal pain, which may become severe. Often, it is cured by discontinuing the antibiotics responsible. Cases are extremely rare because of our continual monitoring of antibiotic prescriptions, private facilities and high hygiene practices.
